Il folosim atat de des in engleza , dar n-am auzit pe nimeni niciodata sa foloseasca echivalentul lui in romana , cu exceptia lui Octavian Paler. -------------------- |

Toxic, agreez in totalitate! Limba noastra e o comoara!
Cum l-a tradus Octavian P. ? Acest topic a fost editat de LigiaB: 28 May 2004, 02:09 AM -------------------- Prayer is the bridge between panic and peace.

cind zici "i'm skilled at pickpocketting" se potriveste "indemanare" sau "talent".
dar daca zici "his networking skills are laughable" parca nu se mai potriveste si nici "deprinderi"... Acest topic a fost editat de dead-cat: 27 May 2004, 07:18 PM -------------------- Black holes are where God divided by zero.

Crush - zdrobire. De-aia "I have a crush on X" se traduce in romana "mi s-a pus pata pe X" Si asta mi-a adus aminte de un alt termen, "infatuation" - care in engleza are cam acelasi sens ca si crush, iar in romana "infatuare" inseamna a fi increzut.
Napoleon9th, cred ca in domeniul computerelor ar fi ridicol sa se traduca in romana termenii tehnici. Dar nici nu-mi place cand le vad scrise in romana "sait", "maus" etc. Despre diferenta intre "may" si "can" o sa-ti spun cum am invatat-o eu din primul an de engleza, si pana in ziua de azi mi se pare cea mai geniala metoda - e o glumita care suna asa: "Mother, can I smoke? Yes dear, you can but you may not." In romana, "can" reprezinta putinta, iar "may" permisiunea (a avea voie) chiar daca in unele instante se foloseste "a putea" - ca si in exemplul de mai sus: Pot sa fumez? poti, dar n-ai voie). -------------------- Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

), drive-in si drive-through. |

"Drive-in", "drive-through"... nu cred ca s-au inventat inca in romana. -------------------- Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

Nu chiar. Inseamna sa-ti indeplinesti datoria de soldat fiind in turela tancului, parca.

A sta santinela in turn cred ca ar fi traducerea corecta in cazul respectiv, cautai ceva mai scurt insa?. -------------------- Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.

-------------------- |

sailing la englezi e "a naviga un vas cu pinze". exista o diferenta intre "sailing" si "steaming" ca de ex: "the fluyte was sailing close-hauled to the wind riding out the heavy seas" sau "the battlecruiser was steaming at top speed trying to reduce the range". ca sa inventez un cuvint nou, pentru sailing ar trebui sa spun "a pinzari" echivalentul la "a naviga" e "to navigate". sailing e...sailing
nu, carma e "rudder" to man e a ocupa dar in sensul de a ocupa cu personal operator. "to man a turret" ar fi "a ocupa o turela" lasind sa se subinteleaga ca "ocupatia" nu e ostila. nu stiu daca pentru verbul anglo-saxon "to man" exista vreun echivalent in limbile romanice. Ehimology :from its possession by the heroes of the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip Avand in vedere ca provine dintr-un nume propriu eu zic ca nu merita sa-ti bati capul cu el. S-ar putea sa avem si noi in dictionarul de neologisme ( nu-s acasa asa ca nu pot sa verific) ceva de genul serendipitudine , ca tot aceeasi radacina trebuie sa o aiba. serendipity= the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for -------------------- |

"To take for granted" spunem de obicei "a admite" sau "a lua drept bun", ceva in genul "ai impresia ca ti se cuvine".
